This project involved the upgrading of an automated car body storage system. The need to increase production volumes was met by doubling the high-density racking capacity and integrating two independent AS/RS stacker cranes. Operating with extreme precision along three axes (X, Y, Z), these units coordinate loading and unloading material flows via a centralized WMS (Warehouse Management System) integrated with PC and HMI panels. The core technological challenge was ensuring maximum operational safety in a simultaneous working environment; the two automated stacker cranes share the same runway track, managed by a fixed telemetry system and dedicated anti-collision software that automatically adjusts speed based on mutual proximity. Furthermore, each unit features laser scanners for continuous profile checks and clearance monitoring, guaranteeing an immediate stop in case of obstructions. The entire perimeter is protected by solenoid-interlocked safety gates, allowing personnel entry only when the system is at a complete standstill. The final result is a tailor-made intralogistics solution that combines high-capacity automated warehousing with rigorous safety protocols, ensuring maximum operational continuity and lean manufacturing efficiency.
